New York City is poised for a wintry glow-up overnight, with several inches of snow forecast to fall across the five boroughs as Christmas draws near. While Saturday began unseasonably warm — with highs reaching the low 40s — temperatures are expected to dip just enough by late evening, setting the stage for a snowy scene across the city, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said precipitation will begin as a wet wintry mix around 10 p.m., before transitioning into lighter, powdery snow as colder air moves in. Up to 4 inches of snow could fall in total, with the steadiest snowfall expected ahead of sunrise Sunday, tapering off around 10 a.m.

“The winter season is in full swing, including all the winter weather that comes with it,” said Eric Adams. “All New York City agencies are prepared for this system, and we continue to monitor conditions closely.”

City officials urge New Yorkers to prepare by avoiding unnecessary driving, allowing extra travel time if using public transportation, staying alert to changing conditions, and signing up for Notify NYC for real-time updates.
